Wedding Wednesday - Simon and Wag

This is a picture of my great-grandparents, Simon Peter Tharp and Rhoda Wagner "Wag" Self. I have been told that this is their wedding picture. There is two things that I have always noticed while looking at this picture.

1st is how short Wag is...I mean look she standing up, he's sitting down and she doesn't come to far above his head.

2nd is how I would love to be able to find the original of this picture. Not to keep just to be able to scan it so that poor Wag's face can be seen better. This picture is no telling how many generations of copies away from the original and so much of details of her face has been lost. Luckily I do have a couple of other pictures from later years but this is the earliest.

But I refuse to look a gift horse in the mouth, at least this picture survived. yay!

Anyway, to give you a little information on them here goes:

Simon Peter Tharp was born 5 Mar 1867 to William Bailey Tharp Jr and Nancy Jane West. Simon marries first Martha Palina Jaggers on 7 Nov 1883 probably in Hart County, Kentucky. Martha dies and is buried in Kessinger Cemetery as I posted here. Simon marries Rhoda Wagner Self on 7 Mar 1897 in Hart County, Kentucky. They have 5 children, one of which was my grandfather. Simon dies on 14 Apr 1951 in Magnolia, Larue County, Kentucky. Simon was also the father to a child by Mary E Taylor, prior to his marriage to Wag. The child lived with Simon and Wag for a while but then was raised by his grandparents and paternal aunt and uncle.

Wag, as she was called, was born 18 Apr 1877 to Little Berry Self, Jr and Joseph O'Neal. I have been told that she got the middle name of Wagner because she was born on the way to or from a short move to Illinois by her parents. They said that she had ridden a road wagon her whole life. Nice. Anyway, she died 10 Oct 1945 in Hodgenville, Larue County, Kentucky.

Hope you enjoyed, glad you stopped by and please come back again ;)
